It is not just the men who are joining in Movember at Will Adams NHS Treatment Centre

November is Men’s Health Awareness Month and the team at Will Adams NHS Treatment Centre are going all out to raise funds as well as awareness of men’s mental and physical health issues.

In addition to growing moustaches to raise money, team members are pledging to walk 60km in November in support of “Move for Men’s Health (MOVE) as, part of the Movember Foundation.

Sam Buckler, the centre’s operations manager is helping to coordinate the centre’s efforts. Sam, 30 and from Rainham, said: “Globally, one man takes his own life every minute of every day.  The commitment we are making is to walk or run 60km over the month – that’s 60 kilometres for the 60 men we lose each hour, every hour – the men who, like my Dad, should still be here today.

“Movember has developed and now MOVE allows the female members of our team to actively support our male colleagues and men everywhere.”

Colleagues will be wearing pedometers, recording their steps throughout the day, with 10,000 steps equalling approximately five miles. Many will also be taking part in a morning walk at Riverside Country Park on Sunday 18th November in aid of charities supporting those living with male cancers as well as mental health problems.

Men are being encouraged to ‘Grow Your Mo’ and take a selfie a day, so the images can be turned into a stop-motion film for the end of the month of fundraising and the team have set up a special page to collect donations at https://uk.movember.com/team/232074
